“A Scene Only Works When Its Emotion Feels Honest,” Says Maharani 4 Director Puneet Prakash

Puneet has always gravitated towards narratives that feel emotionally grounded - something he credits to his early theatre training, his years in advertising, and the kind of cinema he grew up admiring. With Maharani Season 4 finding appreciation from audiences, he feels grateful that viewers connected with the sincerity he aimed to bring to the storytelling.

Sharing his process, Puneet explains, "Lighting, dialogue, framing, you can keep working on these. But if the emotional beat isn't truthful, the moment doesn't land the way it should. That's the one thing I try not to compromise on."

He remembers Maharani 4 as one of his more enriching creative experiences, a project that helped him deepen his sense of pacing, subtext and internal rhythm. His collaboration with Huma Qureshi came with an easy comfort, something he feels goes back to their shared training at Delhi's Act One Theatre Group under the mentorship of NK Sharma. According to Puneet, Huma's instinctive understanding of character and her clarity about what a scene truly needs added quiet depth to many moments. He says, "Huma is a phenomenal actor."

Beyond performances, Puneet speaks warmly of Subhash Kapoor, the show's Creator, Showrunner and Writer. He feels Subhash Sir's clarity, guidance and trust played an important role in shaping his journey through the season.

" Working with him felt like stepping into a new learning space - something I didn't even know I needed ," Puneet shares.

As he looks ahead, Puneet is now preparing for his upcoming feature film, produced by John Abraham under JA Entertainment in collaboration with Bake My Cake Films. He hopes to bring the same honesty and sensitivity to his next project as well.
