Andor’ Season 2 Producer Sanne Wohlenberg Reflects On The Season’s Scope, "We Like To Make It Complicated"

The rebellion gathers momentum and scope as Lucasfilm's Andor returns for its final, highly anticipated season on April 23, streaming exclusively on JioHotstar in India. Set against the backdrop of a galaxy buckling under Imperial rule, the series continues the journey of Cassian Andor-an ordinary man drawn into extraordinary circumstances, who becomes a key figure in the fight against tyranny.
Season 2 takes a bold leap in ambition, covering four years of storytelling across dozens of star systems. For executive producer Sanne Wohlenberg, bringing this vast vision to life was no small feat. "We like to make it complicated," she admits. "This season was a fabulous way for Tony to alter the structure given the different demands in the storytelling. But of course it also means more worlds, more costumes, more things to create. As much as it is fun, of course, this is a huge freight train, growing even as a rebellion grows bigger. It was a challenge to fit that all in and deal with all the elements that were required to make that happen."
That freight train came with staggering creative output-over 140 sets were built, 24 filming locations used, more than 700 costumes designed, along with the creation of 152 creatures, 30 droids, and over 4,100 VFX shots.
Much like Season 1, the final season was divided into four filming blocks, each shaped by its own creative vision. Directors Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz, and Alonso Ruizpalacios led their respective blocks, lending the show a dynamic cinematic texture while maintaining the series' gritty soul. "We were looking for filmmakers who buy into the DNA and the essence that makes 'Andor,' which we had established in Season One," says Wohlenberg. "To continue that in Season Two, there needed to be an innate passion and understanding for the essence. We were looking for filmmakers to really take the scripts and present the best version as the director. That's what we were striving for."
With its rich storytelling, expansive world-building, and a deeper dive into the spark of rebellion, Andor Season 2 promises a thrilling and emotional conclusion to one of the most critically acclaimed chapters in the Star Wars saga.
Don't miss the final season, premiering April 23 on JioHotstar.
