Web Series 2026 Release: Is Bharti Jha's New Show Releasing On OTT After Government Ban On Ullu?
Web series 2026 release: Streaming in India is expanding fast, yet tighter rules are reshaping how OTT platforms operate. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting blocked 20 apps last year for obscene content, raising doubts about bold web series and the future online presence of names like Bharti Jha.

Just a few years ago, in 2019, many viewers felt OTT would never overtake traditional television in Indian homes. By 2023, services such as Netflix, Prime Video, JioHotstar, ZEE5 and SonyLIV had become routine choices, often used alongside cable connections and regular cinema visits for daily entertainment.
Hit web series on OTT platforms drive wider streaming boom
The previous year delivered strong Hindi web series across OTT platforms, which broadened their reach in big cities and smaller towns. Shows like Panchayat 4, Criminal Justice season 4, Special OPs 2 and Rana Naidu season 2 held audience interest. The Family Man season 3 triggered extensive debate on social media and gained consistent critical praise.
Successful titles helped normalise streaming for families beyond metros, but also sparked pushback. Some OTT platforms drew complaints over nudity and explicit plotlines. As debates grew louder, authorities faced pressure from sections of viewers who objected to what they described as vulgar scenes available with a simple subscription.
| Show | Season | Platform mentioned |
|---|---|---|
| Panchayat | 4 | Prime Video |
| Criminal Justice | 4 | JioHotstar |
| Special OPs | 2 | JioHotstar |
| Rana Naidu | 2 | Netflix |
| The Family Man | 3 | Prime Video |
Regulation of OTT platforms targets bold web series
Concerns over what some viewers labelled vulgarity pushed the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to intervene. The ministry ordered a block on 20 OTT platforms last year, stating that their content encouraged obscenity. Ullu was on that list, after a bold sequence from House Arrest spread online and triggered multiple complaints against the streaming app.
A source earlier told Filmibeat, "The Ministry of Broadcasting and Information decided to ban 20 OTT platforms for objectionable and obscene content. OTT platforms like Ullu received flak for promoting vulgarity in society with obscene scenes in their web series. After the ban, Ullu app has removed all its content from its official website and deleted all the posts from Instagram. The makers have remained underground amid the legal restrictions following the ban."
The order did not only hit future web series on those OTT platforms, but also past releases. Ullu had hosted shows such as Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, Happy Ending, Palang Tod and Charam Sukh. Many episodes disappeared from the app soon after the directive, as teams tried to adjust to the stricter code of conduct.
The same source added, "The web series like Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, Happy Ending, Tu Dekh Meri Photo that have released online on Ullu and other such platforms have pulled from the website and app. A few of them are available on Dailymotion, but they will also be removed from the video-sharing platform. The web series featuring Natasha Rajeshwari, Malvika Tomar and other actresses that have not premiered yet will continue to remain unreleased."
Bharti Jha web series future on OTT platforms after ban
The clampdown led many viewers to ask if new Bharti Jha web series would return to OTT platforms. Several earlier projects, including some Bharti Jha web series, were affected when Ullu and similar apps faced restrictions. Bharti Jha was last seen on screen in Happy Ending Part 2 before these tougher measures reshaped streaming operations.
An industry insider shared that Bharti Jha is exploring new work options despite the shake‑up around OTT platforms. The source told Filmibeat, "Bharti Jha is in talks with a few production houses for upcoming OTT shows. However, nothing has been finalised as of now. The actress is known for her bold roles in web series, and she has been offered projects, but she has not confirmed signing any of them as of now."
For now, OTT platforms in India must walk a thin line between viewer demand for edgy stories and closer oversight from the ministry. Several explicit web series remain offline or unreleased, while Bharti Jha’s next appearance is still not locked. Meanwhile, Bharti Jha continues to stay visible through Instagram reels, which keep drawing attention from followers.
