EXCLUSIVE: Jisshu Sengupta On Why Karisma Kapoor's Brown Showcases Kolkata In A Way He Has Never Seen Before
Brown: Now streaming on ZEE5, Brown is being praised for its gripping storytelling, layered characters and distinctive visual style. Among those particularly impressed by the series portrayal of Kolkata is actor Jisshu Sengupta, who believes the city has been captured in a way rarely seen on screen.
Having spent his entire life in Kolkata and worked extensively in the Bengali and Hindi film industries, Jisshu admits that Brown offered him a fresh perspective on a city he knows intimately.
"I've shot countless films in Kolkata and have spent my entire life in the city, but the way Abhinay Deo has captured Kolkata in Brown is something I have never seen before. He hasn't treated it like a location or a backdrop Kolkata becomes a character in the story. Its culture, its streets, its mood and its people are woven into the narrative in a way that makes the city feel alive throughout the show." said Jisshu Sengupta in an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat Assistant Editor Abhishek Ranjit.
The actor further shared that what stood out to him was the authenticity with which the city was portrayed, allowing its unique atmosphere to become an essential part of the storytelling.
"What I loved most was how authentically the city has been portrayed. The grit, the texture, the heat and the atmosphere aren't just visual elements, they become an integral part of the storytelling. As someone who knows Kolkata so well, it was fascinating to see the city presented in such a fresh and immersive way." he added.
Directed by Abhinay Deo, Brown follows the story of Rita Brown, a troubled detective navigating personal struggles while investigating a series of murders. Set against the backdrop of Kolkata, the series uses the city's streets, energy and character to amplify the mood of the narrative, creating a world that feels both haunting and deeply rooted in its setting.
Brown is now streaming on Hindi ZEE5.
