In an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat Assistant Editor Abhishek Ranjit, the talented actor spoke about his character, his preparation process, and his memorable experience of working alongside Karisma Kapoor.

I Look For Human Characters, Not Just Heroes Or Villains

When asked what attracted him to Brown, Surya revealed that it was the emotional depth of the character that immediately caught his attention.

"Story and character are the two most important things for me. I strongly feel that the work I choose should have meaning and relevance. I am always drawn towards characters who have a strong human side," he said.

Reflecting on his previous role as Rinku in Undekhi, Surya explained how he never viewed the character as merely negative despite his actions.

"He was killing people to save his father. That human emotion made me connect with him. Similarly, Arjun also has a very different emotional angle. When characters have vulnerabilities and human flaws, audiences relate to them more."

Working With Karisma Kapoor: A Fanboy Moment Turned Professional Partnership

One of the biggest highlights of Brown is Karisma Kapoor's return in a gritty, unconventional role. Surya admitted that meeting the Bollywood star for the first time was undoubtedly a fanboy moment.

"Obviously, it was a fanboy moment when I first met her. But only for that moment. After that, she became my colleague and co-actor. We had to work together to deliver the best performance possible."

The actor had nothing but praise for Karisma's commitment and professionalism.

"She is very hardworking and extremely humble. She worked incredibly hard for this show. She had to look raw and stripped down from the glamorous image audiences associate her with, and she did it beautifully."

Surya was particularly impressed by the effort Karisma put into every aspect of her character.

"Even simple things, like learning how her character smokes on screen, she worked on those details. That's her process and dedication."

Karisma Kapoor Created A Comfort Zone For Everyone

Beyond her professionalism, Surya believes Karisma's biggest strength is the environment she creates around her.

"After the workshops, she welcomed me with open arms. She made sure everyone felt included. Whether it was discussing scenes, sharing meals, or simply spending time together, she created a very comfortable atmosphere."

According to Surya, such gestures from senior actors make a significant difference.

"I feel only a senior actor can truly create that environment where everyone feels equal and comfortable. She did that beautifully."
