Dating Apps: Boon or Bane? Gagan Gupta Reveals Swipe Crime Explores The Grey Areas

Swipe Crime Update: Actor Gagan Gupta takes on a unique role as Tamta Mama in the Amazon MX Player web series Swipe Crime. Produced by Shruti Badjtaya and Harsh Mainra under the Versatile Motion Pictures banner, the series dives deep into the world of social media, dating apps, and the unintended consequences of technology.
"The youth today spends so much time on social media and dating apps. While they're entertaining and convenient, their misuse can lead to life-altering outcomes," Gupta stated. He believes the series stands out for portraying both the allure and dangers of digital platforms.
Gupta's character, Tamta Mama, is a small-town moneylender with a sharp mind and an eye for opportunities. He becomes a 20% partner in the dating app startup created by college students, bringing his own brand of influence to the table. "Tamta Mama's relatable because he's not entirely a villain. His practicality and wit resonate with audiences," Gupta explained.
Reflecting on his limited but impactful time on set, Gupta shared lighthearted anecdotes about bonding with his co-actors. Despite spending only a few days shooting, he appreciated the camaraderie and professionalism of the team.
Having heard of real-life incidents involving fraud and deception on dating apps, Gupta feels the show's narrative will strike a chord with viewers. "These incidents are more common than people think, even if they don't openly talk about them," he said.
With clear direction and well-coordinated logistics, Gupta praised his experience working with Versatile Motion Pictures. He is confident that Swipe Crime will resonate with audiences for its thrilling, contemporary storytelling and insightful take on modern-day dilemmas.
