Ekta Kapoor Opens Up On Expanding to OTT Platforms: 'I Want World To Listen To Our...'

Producer Ekta Kapoor is preparing a strong push into OTT platforms, aiming to take Indian stories to viewers worldwide. Alongside several new web projects, Ekta has Bhooth Bangla on the way, scheduled to release on 17th April, signalling a sharper focus on digital-first storytelling.

Speaking about the shift, Ekta shared that, "I am making some shows. They haven't been announced yet. But I am working on it." Ekta added, "I am very excited because my stories will be spread all over the world. And I want the whole world to listen to our Indian creators' stories. So, I want everyone to watch the shows I'm making, be it in Korea, Japan, Africa or America. Everyone should watch the Indian creators' stories."

Ekta Kapoor OTT platforms and Indian stories reach global viewers

Ekta’s comments underline a clear plan to push Indian creators into international markets through OTT platforms. The focus is on making content that travels across languages and cultures while keeping Indian emotions at the core. The move aims to give local writers and directors a stronger global voice.

Balaji Telefilms, founded by Ekta, has long shaped Indian television with family dramas, supernatural fiction and bold storytelling choices. Shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Naagin created loyal audiences over many years, proving there is wide appetite for high-voltage drama and long-running story arcs.

Moving from traditional TV to OTT platforms gives Ekta freedom to experiment with story length, themes and formats. Bhooth Bangla and the still-secret web shows indicate a strategy that blends her familiar emotional style with fresher narrative structures, designed to appeal both to Indian viewers and to global streaming audiences.

As these OTT projects roll out, Ekta’s work is set to test how Indian television-style storytelling performs on international streaming menus. With Bhooth Bangla dated for 17th April and more series in development, the next phase of Ekta’s career focuses squarely on sharing Indian stories with audiences far beyond domestic broadcast channels.
