First Copy 2 | Munawar Faruqui Reveals How He Left Everyone Surprised With His Performance: They Didn’t Expect

The second season of First Copy on Amazon MX Player follows Arif's challenges in early 2000s Mumbai. Munawar Faruqui's portrayal deepens the nostalgic crime drama, capturing ambition and betrayal.

Amazon MX Player, a free video streaming platform by Amazon, has recently launched the eagerly anticipated second season of the crime drama, First Copy. The story unfolds in the rugged setting of early 2000s Mumbai, delving deeper into the life of Arif. Once the unrivalled leader in film piracy, Arif now faces betrayal, ambition, and survival challenges. With Afreen at his side, he strives to reclaim his world using the same street-smart tactics and determination that once built his empire.

Munawar Faruqui brings Arif to life with remarkable intensity and depth, portraying a character torn between power and its consequences. Munawar's on-set personality often took his co-stars by surprise, as he maintained a light-hearted demeanour off-camera. "From my co-stars to the directors, was always surprised, and that's a good thing," he revealed "I used to joke around and have fun all the time, when it came to acting, they'd genuinely say I was doing a good. At first, I thought they were just being polite, but they actually meant it. They didn't expect me to act like that, and that surprise made it even better."

Exploring Nostalgia: Revisiting Early 2000s Mumbai

Munawar expressed a deep connection with the show's setting, as it reminded him of early 2000s Mumbai, a city he fondly remembers. He recounted, "If I could go back to that time, you'd probably find me near Marine Lines Railway Station near Nariman Point, by that old gola vendor outside the station. That's where I first discovered malai gola, topped with Milkmaid, which felt like luxury back then. It cost 25 rupees when the regular ones were just 5 or 10. Whenever it rained, my aunt and her kids would take me there. The sound of the rain, the colours of the gola, all of us laughing, that was happiness in its simplest form."

The atmosphere of early 2000s Mumbai is not just a backdrop for the series; it is a character in itself. The bustling cityscape, the vibrant culture, and the vivid memories of a bygone era add layers to the storyline, making it relatable to audiences who share those memories. This sense of nostalgia is a powerful element that enhances the viewing experience, drawing viewers into a world that feels both familiar and engaging.

As the series progresses, Arif's struggle against his crumbling empire and mounting adversaries keeps viewers on edge. His journey is marked by the constant tension between his ambitions and the consequences of his actions. The complexities of his character and the dynamic storyline ensure that the audience remains captivated, eager to see what unfolds next in his tumultuous life.

First Copy's second season not only builds upon its crime drama roots but also delves into personal stories that resonate with its audience. The combination of intense drama, personal conflicts, and a nostalgic setting creates a captivating narrative that leaves a lasting impression. As Arif battles his inner demons and external threats, viewers are taken on a journey that explores the human condition against the backdrop of a city that never sleeps.
