First Copy Trailer: Amazon MX Player, the free streaming service by Amazon, has released the trailer for its upcoming series, First Copy. This series revisits the vibrant cinema scene of the 1990s. The trailer offers a glimpse into a world where stories were as coveted as stardom itself. Munawar Faruqui stars in his OTT debut as Arif, a piracy mastermind, alongside Krystle D'Souza and Gulshan Grover. The series will be available for free on Amazon MX Player starting 20 June.
The narrative of First Copy is set in an era when cinema was at its peak in the city. Arif, a charismatic young man with street smarts, finds himself in a world where film dreams are replicated and monetized. As his ambitions grow, so do the emotional consequences. The series reflects on real issues like accessibility and nostalgia while emphasizing the importance of supporting legal content in today's digital age.
Exploring Characters and Themes
Munawar Faruqui shared his excitement about playing Arif, describing it as an underdog story that holds personal significance as his acting debut in a series. He said, "First Copy is that underdog story and extremely special to me as it marks my acting debut in a series. Playing the role of Arif was an interesting challenge; he's full of life, has his flaws, but is someone with big dreams. Growing up, films were a huge part of my world, and this story took me back to those days. It's a mix of nostalgia, hustle, and emotion, and I'm excited for the audience to see this new side of me."
Krystle D'Souza plays Mona, a character with many layers. She expressed her enthusiasm for portraying Mona's complexity: "Mona is a woman of various masks; she is regal, wounded, and unapologetically proud. For me, it was refreshing to portray a woman who refuses to disappear even when the world tells her she's past her prime." Her relationship with Arif explores themes of relevance and redemption.
Nostalgia and Storytelling
Gulshan Grover takes on the role of Mahesh Kumar, reflecting on an era he witnessed firsthand: "Playing Mahesh Kumar was like revisiting an era I've personally witnessed evolve. He's commanding, calculating, and has built his world on influence and intimidation." The series captures the essence of 90s cinema with its drama and emotional stakes.
Amogh Dusad from Amazon MX Player described First Copy as "a powerful underdog story — about a dreamer chasing ambition and identity amidst the chaos of the fascinating '90s film world." He emphasized how stories during that time were more than entertainment; they offered escape and hope.
A Tribute to Cinema's Golden Era
Writer and Director Farhan Zamma shared his thoughts on collaborating with Amazon MX Player: "First Copy is a project close to our hearts filled with nostalgia and meaningful storytelling." He hopes it brings back memories of cinema's golden era when every film felt like an event.
The series will be accessible through various platforms such as mobile apps and connected TVs from 20 June onwards via Amazon MX Player without any cost.
