While centipedes remain unwelcome at our homes, viewers are loving Kankhajura for its fast-paced storyline and impeccable performances of the actors.

I have been quite vocal about lack of trans representation on the screen, and when I see actors like Trinetra Haldar playing trans characters, I feel a 'small change' has been initiated. From Made in Heaven 2 to Kankhajura, the 27-year-old has added substance to her roles, giving it a new dimension.

As the crime thriller premiered on SonyLIV, Filmibeat interacted with the lead star Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju, who shared screen space with Roshan Matthew and Mohit Raina. From talking about her role to expressing her desire to play the lead in a film, Tri shared her thoughts with us in an exclusive conversation.

SUCH A QUIRKY TITLE

I was heavily invested in Kankhajura the moment I heard the title. I was blown away when I saw the trailer.

As I interacted with Trinetra, she told Filmibeat, "I was also attracted towards the word Kankhajura while the makers narrated me the project. I am playing the role of Amy, who is fierce and yet complex. It was an emotionally challenging role for me as I am way different than Amy in real life. When I was giving the audition of the web series, I realised it is way different from any role for which I have auditioned earlier."

WORKING WITH ROSHAN MATTEW

Trinetra, who is an avid viewer of Malayalam cinema, is on cloud nine after working with Roshan Matter. The Made In Heaven 2 star quipped, "I have watched his films, where he showcased his talent as an actor. I was nervous on the first day, but he made me calm. It was a delightful experience working with him."

When I mentioned the audience's reaction to their sizzling chemistry, she said, "Oh, this is heartening to know. I am excited the viewers loved her chemistry as we both poured our heart and soul into the project."

PERFECT BIRTHDAY GIFT

Trinetra will turn a year older on June 17. When reminded about Kankhajura releasing before her birthday, the actress said, "It is indeed the best birthday gift. The web series released days before my birthday, proving to be the perfect present. I hope the audience likes my performance."

"My birthday falls in Pride month, and what a better gift than to celebrate the love of the audience," she stated.

CIS-GENDER ROLES IN THE FUTURE

Trinetra said that she is keen to work in projects, where she can play cis-gender roles. "I am hoping to play the lead in a movie somewhere down the line. This is my dream, and I working towards achieving it" she quipped.

Having played trans characters, the actress is now willing to experiment with roles, where she can challenge herself as an artist. "Every day is a new beginning and I am praying that I am offered meaningful content that can strike a chord with the audience," she added.
