Love Story in the 1970s Release Date: The upcoming Chinese period drama Love Story in the 1970s is set to premiere on February 21. With its release just days away, viewers will soon be able to stream the 29-episode series on WeTV.

Directed by Chen Chang, the drama unfolds against the backdrop of 1970s China and centres on the lives of two young individuals navigating personal ambition, social expectations and evolving relationships. Chen Feiyu aka Arthur Chen takes on the role of Fang Mu Yang, while Sun Qian portrays Fei Ni, a determined factory worker with aspirations of pursuing higher education.

Love Story in the 1970s Storyline

Fei Ni works in a textile factory and dreams of securing a university recommendation to change her future. Her plans become intertwined with those of her former classmate Fang Mu Yang, who earns recognition after being injured while rescuing someone. Believing that caring for him may improve her own chances of gaining admission, Fei Ni steps in to help. However, her hopes are repeatedly tested as circumstances shift and pressures mount.

At one point, in an effort to secure housing ahead of her brother's wedding, Fei Ni proposes a fake marriage with Fang Mu Yang. What begins as a practical decision gradually evolves as the two become a couple sharing a bunk bed and confront the realities of daily life together. Over time, mutual support and shared struggles foster a deeper emotional connection.

As the narrative progresses, Fei Ni ultimately secures a place at university, while Fang Mu Yang pursues his aspiration of becoming a painter. The series charts their growth against a period marked by transition and opportunity.
