Mozez Singh Exclusive Interview On Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous: Ever since the release, the heartfelt Netflix documentary film 'Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous' has been trending on the streaming giant. The docu-film not only shows the music icon Yo Yo Honey Singh but it also shows the man beyond his popstar image. As the Netflix documentary film continues to enjoy the global appreciation, Filmibeat sat down with the director Mozez Singh, the man behind putting Yo Yo Honey Singh's journey all together and presenting it on screens in the most honest yet sensitive way possible. During the exclusive interview, Mozez revealed how his directorial debut film 'Zubaan' played a major role in the process of him bagging this Netflix documentary film.

Here're excerpts from the interview:

1) First of all, congratulations for the huge response to Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous... the docu film is trending at #1 on netflix. What's the feeling like right now?

God... I am having a very surreal experience because the film is trending #1 on Netflix and the reaction to the film has just been absolutely amazing. I mean literally it's just been very overwhelming. It's very surreal and I am very grateful and I am very humbled and relived that it has happened and it has reached out the way it has. Everybody has seen the popstar but I wanted to show the man behind the popstar and that is what I really wanted to achieve and that is what I think is really working.

2) How did this idea of bringing out Yo Yo Honey Singh's life to screens happen?

It was Netflix's idea. They came up to me and approached me towards the end of 2021. I got a call from Raghav Khanna who was with Netflix Singapore. He had seen my film 'Zubaan' and he loved how sensitively handled the music in the film and he wanted to give this documentary to a fiction director who understood music well. He thought I fitted all the right requirements and then he offered it to me and I thought it was just going to be a very interesting challenge because I had never done a documentary prior to this. I have always wanted to do different things as a filmmaker. To be honest with you, I have always to make a film on rockstar and here I was getting an opportunity to do one.

3) Your previous works, both 'Zubaan' and 'Human' were fictional. And Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous is a documentary film. As a director, how different it is to make a documentary compared to fictional stories?

It's very different and way more difficult because the thing in fiction is you have a script and there is a sense of control and it is all planned. In documentary, everything is more organic and they are subjected to change. Sometimes you don't get what you want and sometimes you get more than what you want. You are also working with real people here and when you have a camera shoved on to their face and asking the person all kinds of triggering and provocative questions the person can just shut up and not answer. I had to create relationship of trust and belief with Yo Yo Honey Singh and he had to understand that I was never going to throw him under the bus and to do anything to purposely hurt him and damage him but at the same time I had to tell the truth.
