Netflix’s Mandala Murders: Vaani Kapoor Calls It “Unsettleing In The Best Way” - Here's Why!

Netflix s Mandala Murders Vaani Kapoor Calls It

Netflix's upcoming mythological crime thriller, Mandala Murders, doesn't just check genre boxes, it breaks them. With a gripping mystery murders investigation at its core and a mythological thread with dark secrets running through it, this first-of-its-kind genre-bending series offers a world that's layered and atmospheric. It's unlike anything crime or mythological Indian shows that have been made before - and that's exactly what drew the cast in.

Vaani Kapoor, who leads the case as detective Rea Thomas, was struck by the show's distinct tone and emotional complexity. She adds, "What really sets Mandala Murders apart is the world it's set in, it's not just another whodunnit. The show blends crime with psychological depth, exploring the darker side of cult culture, blind faith, and emotional trauma. It's layered, atmospheric, and visually so distinct.
Every character is carrying something... a secret, a wound, a belief... and that complexity makes the story feel more real and gripping. It's unsettling in the best way."

Vaibhav Raj Gupta, who plays Vikram (a cop), feels this one rewrites the rulebook entirely. "What sets Mandala Murders apart from the crime thrillers we've seen on Indian screens is the writing - the whole world of Mandala. The characters are not very simple. As an actor, I've never seen any show like this on Indian OTT. I think the take is very fresh, especially with the mythology. Mandala has created its own mythology, which is very interesting. And of course, it's YRF's first crime drama thriller, so that's something to look forward to."

Essaying Ananya, a powerful political figure, Surveen Chawla says, "It's a genre-bending narrative, not something you commonly see attempted, to be honest. Even the thought of it, the inception, was always very exciting to me. My character has a political background in the show."

Looks like Mandala Murders isn't just telling a story, it's building a whole new world, one 'keeps on the edge of your seat' twist at a time.

Catch the mystery unfold in Mandala Murders, streaming on Netflix from July 25.
