Neeraj Pandey, in an exclusive interview with Filmibeat, dropped a hint about the third season. He stated that the fourth installment (Special OPs 3) would release earlier, stating that Special OPs season 2 was ready, but JioHotstar wanted to premiere it after the culmination of IPL 2025.

The Special 26 director also revealed the number of episodes in Special OPs 2.0.

"Special OPS season 2 will feature a total of seven episodes that will be loaded with entertainment. The episodes are edgier, bolder and entertaining in the new season. Special OPS 2 was slated to premiere early; however, the network delayed it due to IPL 2025. As JioHotstar wanted to release the season at the right time, we waited for some time."

Kay Menon, Vinay Pathak, Karan Tacker's Special OPS 2 was originally scheduled to release on July 11; however, it got postponed to July 18. The show got delayed by a week, setting several tongues wagging.

"JioHotstar postponed the premiere of Special OPS season 2 due to some internal reasons that have not been specified. The network decided to delay the release by a week as it didn't wish to clash with new film releases like Maalik and Aankhon Ki Gustakiyaan. While Aap Jaisa Koi is releasing on Netflix on the same date, Special OPS 2 will get a special solo release on JioHotstar next week," our reliable industry source told Filmibeat last week, when we asked about the potential reason behind the delay in release of the web series.

The first episode of Special OPS season 2 will premiere at 12am midnight on July 18. Unlike Criminal Justice season 4, the full episodes of Special OPS 2 will release together.
