Swipe Crime Actor Sanyam Sharma Exclusive Interview

Swipe Crime Actor Sanyam Sharma Exclusive Interview: Sanyam Sharma needs no introduction. The content creator-turned-actor sets the internet on fire with his daily-life funny videos. And the best thing about them? They are effortlessly relatable. The Mumbai-based social media influencer has been grabbing a lot of attention over his role as 'Vicky Bhaiyya' in the recently-released Amazon MX Player series titled 'Swipe Crime'.

In an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat, Sanyam opened up on the similarities with his character 'Vicky Bhaiyya', the story behind his 'Sharma Ji Ka Badda Beta' brand and many more.

Here are excerpts from the interview:

1) Your show 'Swipe Crime' deals with cyber crime and the impact of social media on people's lives. Being a social media influencer yourself, where do you think people should draw the line between on and off social media?

People easily share their locations on Instagram, and introduce their family members as well. You never know who is tracking you and keeping a tab on what you are doing on social media. So, the first thing would not sharing this much personal details on the internet. Nowadays, everyone is aware about what's happening and the cyber crime awareness caller tune has also been introduced. Ab toh government bhi laws bana rahe hai. Like recently, influencer Ankush Bahuguna was also framed in the digital arrest scam.

2) From being 'Sharma Ji Ka Badda Beta' to playing Vicky Bhaiyya in 'Swipe Crime', how has the journey been like and what's your biggest takeaway from it?

I find it very smooth only. There's nothing like a story story but it's very organic. I started during the lockdown and then slowly it picked up. I was aware about the trend, what will work and what won't... toh uske according I kept making content. And then one day, I was offered Vicky Bhaiyya's role. They saw my work in 'Yeh Saali Naukri' and they liked it. I was called for the audition and the look test but it didn't happen. They just saw me and said 'yeh aap hi karo'.

There are quite a few similarities between my and my character Vicky. In the show, Vicky Bhaiyya is shown as a rebellious guy who is fearless. In real-life, my nature is also like that.

3) You are an internet sensation and your videos create quite a rage on the internet. You also have over 800k followers on Instagram. How do you manage to not let success go to your head?

Sometimes, I talk to my manager. He keeps reminding me of what's happening aur main zameen par aa jata hoon.

4) Three tips that you would like to share to all those newcomers who want to make it big in the world of social media?

Firstly, know why are you doing it. It's the basic thing. If you are good at it then go ahead, you are gonna have fun. Second tip that I would like to give is consistency. Even if you are not good in content creation, eventually you will become a pro with just being consistent. Last advice would be, create your own style. It will become your USP.

5) What's the story behind the 'Sharma Ji Ka Badda Beta' tag?

It was very simple. My father is Sharma Ji and I am his 'bada beta'. I didn't think of it as a brand but it somehow happened. Nobody knows me by my real name, they all know me as 'Sharma Ji ka badda beta'. It's just the factual name which came out organically.

6) In the world of social media where it's easy to get blinded by the fake reality, how to do you keep yourself 'India's most genuine guy'?

I think people are little scared of opening up about themselves on the internet and showing how they really are as a person. I post everything about myself. I don't care much about keeping my feed aesthetic. From music to write-ups, poems, fashion and whatnot... I share everything. When people see every shade and emotion of yours, they connect with you.
