Taarkata: Meiyang Chang Reveals What Makes Dodo Most Dangerous Character Of His Career- EXCLUSIVE
ZEE5 Taarkata: From winning hearts as a singer on Indian Idol season 3 to establishing himself as an actor, host, and performer, Meiyang Chang has constantly reinvented himself. Taking things a notch higher, the talented artist is all set to take the audience on a roller coaster ride with ZEE5's Bengali action thriller Taarkata.
Guess what? Meiyang Chang plays one of the most intriguing villains audiences have seen in recent times in Taarkata.
In an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat Assistant Editor Abhishek Ranjit, Chang opened up about making his Bengali entertainment debut, portraying the sinister Dodo, working alongside Vikram Chatterjee, and reflecting on his remarkable journey from Dhanbad to becoming one of the most loved faces in Indian entertainment.
"Dodo Is Sadism With A Smile: Meiyang Chang On His Character
While the trailer has already generated significant buzz around Chang's character, the actor chose a simple yet chilling description for Dodo.
"If in one sentence I had to describe him, I would say 'sadism with a smile.' He is extremely sadistic, but if you just look at him, you probably won't realize the capacity for evil he possesses. Looking at Dodo can be very deceptive," he said.
Known for mostly portraying positive and relatable characters throughout his career, Chang admitted that getting the opportunity to play an out-and-out antagonist was both exciting and refreshing.
"I've mostly played good characters. This is one that's absolutely evil. Every actor wants to be a hero, but secretly they also want to be villains because it's so much fun."
Bengali Debut Feels Like Coming Home
Although this marks his first major Bengali project, Chang believes the connection with Bengal has always existed.
"I was probably bound to come to the Bengali industry someday. Kolkata and the people of Bengal have given me immense support from the very beginning. This is something we can collectively claim as our own because it's in Bangla."
The actor revealed that while language wasn't a challenge, adapting to a completely Bengali work environment was a new experience. However, any apprehensions disappeared once he reached Kolkata.
"It completely felt like home. One major difference I noticed was that people are much more relaxed here. In Mumbai, nobody has time. Here, despite work pressure, people take out time for conversations and relationships. I really appreciated that simplicity," he quipped.
Taarkata is available for streaming on ZEE5.
