Web Series 2025: Will Rekha Mona Sarkar's New Show Release After Government Ban On Certain OTT Platforms?

Web Series 2025: OTT platforms are here to rule the entertainment sphere. Love or hate, but you cannot debate that the web shows and OTT original films will continue to grab a significant share of viewership when compared to television and theatrical releases. While Indians love watching films in the cinema halls, the number of superhits have drastically reduced in the last five years.
2025 has barely seen a few blockbusters, as only Chhaava, Saiyaara doubled their profits in Bollywood. The Kannada industry saw a significant growth as Kantara Chapter 1 and Mahavatar Narsimha set the box office on fire. Lokah: Chapter 1 emerged as the sleeper hit of the year, but where are the other films? OTT platforms delivered solid blockbusters as Criminal Justice season 4, Panchayat 4, Special OPs 2 and The Family Man season 3 wooed the audience.
Indian audience has changed for good, as they no longer are entertaining lackluster content. Sikandar, Azaad, Emergency and Deva failed to a strike a chord with the desi audience, turning out to be big time flops. OTT has changed the way we consume. While Prime Video, Netflix, SonyLIV, ZEE5, and JioHotstar have dished out solid content, there are certain platforms that have showcased obscene content in their shows.
Taking strict action against such obscene content, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting banned such OTT platforms.
"The Ministry of Broadcasting and Information decided to ban 20 OTT platforms for objectionable and obscene content. OTT platforms like Ullu received flak for promoting vulgarity in society with obscene scenes in their web series. After the ban, Ullu app has removed all its content from its official website and deleted all the posts from Instagram. The makers have remained underground amid the legal restrictions following the ban," a reliable industry source exclusively told Filmibeat.
Will Rekha Mona Sarkar's new show release on Ullu app or other such platforms post the ban? The answer is a 'big no'.
"Rekha was approached for a new web series that was supposed to release on an OTT platform. However, we have learned that the show has been cancelled following the Government's ban. She still has a couple of projects in her kitty but an official announcement is yet to be made," an industry source told Filmibeat.
