Baai Tujhyapayi EXCLUSIVE! Kshitee Jog Reveals If Stepping Into Lakshmi's Emotional World Was Difficult

Baai Tujhyapayi: ZEE5 has packed a solid punch once again with the release of Baai Tujhyapai, a series that leaves a long-lasting impact on the audience. As a journalist, I interact with several people while doing research for my stories or attending media junkets. Everyone I know echoed- Baai Tujhyapai is the sleeper hit of 2025. And mind you, the success of the series is not limited only to the Maharastrian market. It has earned brownie points in the Hindi-speaking belts as well.
The period drama has sensitively showcased how a young girl battles social restrictions and superstitions while harbouring her role of becoming a doctor.
After the success of the web show, Filmibeat interacted with 'Lakshmi', who made waves with her performance.
Kshitee Jog, in an exclusive interview with Filmibeat Chief Copy Editor Abhishek Ranjit, spoke about her role of Lakshmi in Baai Tujhyapayi and revealed if she faced any difficulty in stepping into her emotional world.
Here are excerpts from the interview-
Q- While portraying a strong yet restrained woman like Lakshmi, did you find yourself reflecting on how much or how little the struggles of women have really changed over the years?
The struggle for women may have changed, but it definitely hasn't ended. We still live in a largely patriarchal society. I've been fortunate to be surrounded by supportive men - my husband, my friends, and others - but that's not everyone's reality. It's sad that even in 2025, the fight is still ongoing. The nature of the struggle might have evolved, but it's far from over.
Q- How did you step into Lakshmi's emotional world? Did her character remind you of someone you've known, observed, or grown up around?
It wasn't difficult to step into Lakshmi's emotional world because, at her core, she's a mother. Every mother plays a vital role in her daughter's life. She's ready to compromise, sacrifice, and even fight the world when needed. I've seen so many women like that around me. They may not be exactly like Lakshmi, but they carry the same spirit. It was all about observing those women and bringing their warmth and strength into my performance.
Q- The story unfolds in a village where superstition shapes daily life. Was there any particular ritual, belief, or social norm depicted in the series that made you realise how some of these mindsets still linger today?
Though the show is set in 1990, even in 2025, unfortunately, many superstitions around the menstrual cycle still exist, not just in rural areas but even in urban cities. It's really sad that people continue to believe that menstruation or menstrual blood is impure or unholy, that women shouldn't visit temples, touch a pickle jar, go to work, or eat certain foods. It's unfortunate, but these outdated beliefs still persist even today.
Baai Tujhyapai is available for streaming on ZEE5. Viewers can download the full web series in HD format for offline viewing if they have a paid subscription for the OTT platform.
