Teachers’ Day Special: Balika Vadhu, Vidya, Chanakya & Other TV Shows That Had Teachers As Main Characters

The central character Anandi (played by Pratyusha Banerjee) in Balika Vadhu was much influenced by her teacher Sandhya which was played by Sadia Siddiqui. Post Anandi's wedding, Sandhya returned as Education Inspector.

Hip Hip Hurray was based on the lives of class XII students, their relationship problems, interactions, failures and successes. In the show, Vinay Pathak played the very popular character of English teacher, Vinny sir. Suchitra Pillai portrayed the role of Alaknanda ma’am, a stylish physics teacher.

Chanakya, a 47-part Indian television historical was aired on Doordarshan in 1991. The series is a based on the life and times of the 4th century BCE Indian economist, strategist and political theorist, Chanakya, who was guru and mentor of Chandragupta Maurya.

Teacher was a show based on a high school campus and focused on a bunch of friends from 12th standard. Sachin Khedekar, Nialanjana Sharma, Rushad Rana, Purab Kohli, Bhumika Chawla, Nauheed Cyrusi and Sharokh Barucha played major characters in the show.

Swim Team was a show aired on Channel V which depicted the journey of a swimming coach named Tarun Kapoor along with his team of swimmers.

Vidya was aired on Colors TV that had Meera Deosthale and Namish Taneja in the lead role. Meera played the role of a played the role Vidya, an English teacher. Unfortunately, she is illiterate, and in turn Vivek (IAS officer (played by Namish) promises to teach her.
