Amitabh Bachchan, born Amitabh Shrivastav on October 11, 1942, is a Hindi film actor, film producer, television host, occasional playback singer, and former politician. In the history of Indian cinema, he is regarded as one of the most prominent and successful actors. The Shahenshah of Bollywood (after his 1988 film Shahenshah), Sadi ka Mahanayak (Hindi for "Greatest actor of the century"), Star of the Millennium, or Big B. His dominance in the Indian movie scene during the 1970s-1980s made the French director François Truffaut call it a "one-man industry".

Amitabh Bachchan wanted to be a radio presenter before venturing into Bollywood, but All India Radio in Delhi rejected his baritone voice. Back in the 1960s, Ameen Sayani was the undisputed king of radio, and when Amitabh arrived at the AIR studio, the radio presenter was too busy to spare any time for his audition, and the actor gave up after a few failed attempts to meet him and then gave up.

He was also rejected during his first audition for films because he was too tall. In 2018, Big B shared a picture, which was part of his portfolio in the early phase of his career.

Big B made his acting debut in Khwaja Ahmad Abbas's Saat Hindustani in 1969. He got the part thanks to his friend Tinnu Anand, who was originally cast in the role. He did, however, leave for Kolkata after being offered the opportunity to assist Satyajit Ray, but not before speaking with director KA Abbas about casting Big B.

He began his career in films in 1969 as a voice narrator in Mrinal Sen’s Bhuvan Shome. Director Satyajit Ray also used his voice in his 1977 film Shatranj Ke Khiladi. Though their relationship deteriorated in the years following Mehmood's death, Bachchan wrote in his blog in July 2004: "He always helped in establishing myself as an actor. Early in my career, Mehmood Bhai was one of the graph's helpers. He was the first producer to cast me as the lead in "Bombay to Goa."
