He was born on May 25, 1977, in Chennai, India, as the younger son of actor Sivakumar and younger brother of actor Suriya.Karthi initially pursued a career in engineering and completed his master's degree in the United States. However, he later decided to follow in his family's footsteps and entered the film industry.He made his acting debut in 2007 with the Tamil film "Paruthiveeran," which was a massive success and earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
