When NMIA Opened, It Walked Forward With India’s Bravest!

The launch of Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) unfolded with a powerful and deeply symbolic beginning, as the inauguration was led by Paramveer Chakra awardees, placing courage, service, and national pride at the heart of one of India's most significant infrastructure milestones.

Instead of a conventional, protocol-heavy ceremony, NMIA chose a people-led celebratory parade that honoured the values the airport intends to stand for-respect, inclusion, and collective contribution. The parade, led by the Paramveer Chakra champions alongside senior airport leadership, moved through the airport precinct as a living tribute to those who serve the nation and those who build it every day.

Joining the national heroes were participants from Adani Saksham, Adani Satvaro, Mitti Café (PWD teams), and young athletes from VK Football Academy, along with airport staff and key community representatives. Together, they represented a cross-section of India veterans, persons with disabilities, youth, changemakers, and professionals, walking side by side to mark the beginning of NMIA's journey.

The presence of 20 young footballers and their coach from VK Football Academy added a forward-looking dimension to the moment, symbolising the next generation that the airport will serve and inspire. Airport staff, many of whom played a critical role in bringing NMIA to life, marched with pride, reinforcing the idea that this launch belonged as much to its builders as to its future passengers.

The parade culminated in the hoisting of the national flag, a moment that transformed the inauguration into a collective act of civic pride. As the tricolour rose, it marked not just the opening of an airport, but the beginning of a national asset shaped by service, sacrifice, and shared purpose.

All attendees were personally greeted and presented with hampers as a gesture of gratitude, underscoring the warmth and respect that defined the day. The atmosphere was celebratory yet grounded, patriotic without being performative.

By placing Paramveer Chakra champions at the forefront of its launch, NMIA redefined how infrastructure in India can be inaugurated, not through spectacle alone, but through values.
