He received recognition from the Government of Andhra Pradesh a remarkable 24 times and was honoured with the highest civilian awards, the Padma Shri (2001), Padma Bhushan (2011), and posthumously, the Padma Vibhushan.

In addition to his singing prowess, SPB holds the unique distinction of being the Indian singer who acted in the most films and the dubbing artist who lent his voice to superstars like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Girish Karnad, Gemini Ganesan, and Arjun.
