Tirupur Subramaniam Makes An Exit: Resigns As President Of Tamil Nadu Theater And Multiplex Owners Association

Tirupur Subramaniam Exits: Quits TN Theater & Multiplex Head

Tirupur Subramaniam Resigns: Tirupur Subramaniam, the President of the Tamil Nadu Theater and Multiplex Owners Association, has tendered his resignation, according to the latest reports.

A few days ago, the Tamil Nadu government issued a notice to Tirupur Subramaniam's theater for violating government restrictions by hosting special morning shows for 'Tiger 3' without obtaining proper permission.

Following the Pongal face-off between Vijay's 'Varisu' and Ajith's 'Thunivu,' the Tamil Nadu government has prohibited theaters in the state from conducting early morning special screenings.

However, the theater owned by Tirupur Subramaniam, President of the Tamil Nadu Theatre Association, organized six screenings of Salman Khan's Hindi film 'Tiger 3' on Diwali day, sparking a social media debate due to his infringement.

Fans were taken aback by the exclusive screenings for 'Tiger 3,' especially when certain Tamil films like 'Jailer' and 'Leo' were refused permission for similar early morning shows. Numerous online users raised questions regarding the special screenings in this prominent theater, sharing screenshots of the show timings from the ticket booking site.

A section of fans questioned if Tirupur Subramaniam's theater had received special authorization from the Tamil Nadu government. However, it has been clarified that no such special permission was granted to Tirupur Subramaniam's theater.

After getting complaints about early screenings held prior to the government's permitted time during Diwali. Following this complaint, the Tahsildar conducted a direct investigation and forwarded the report to the Tirupur District Collector.

The district administration sent a notice, asking an explanation concerning the 'Tiger 3' early morning screenings.

Tirupur Subramaniam announced his resignation today in Tirupur, stating, 'I am stepping down from my position as the President of the Tamil Nadu Theater Owners Association and the Theater Owners Associations in Coimbatore, Erode, Nilgiris, and Tirupur districts. This decision is based on personal reasons. I extend my gratitude to everyone who has supported me thus far.'

Tirupur Subramaniam's Critique Of 'Leo' Regarding Profitability

Earlier, Tirupur Subramaniam made news by raising concerns over the profitability of theaters in Tamil Nadu following the release of "Leo," a Tamil-language action thriller directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and starring Thalapathy Vijay.

"Leo" had been distributed in Tamil Nadu by Seven Screen Studio, which had demanded an unprecedented 80 percent share of the film's revenue. In response, theatre owners across Chennai initially protested, refusing to screen the movie. Only after negotiations were they persuaded to showcase "Leo," ultimately being shown in more than 850 screens throughout Tamil Nadu.

In his statement, Tirupur Subramaniam expressed the industry's financial struggles in relation to "Leo." He emphasized that the film had failed to generate profits for theatre owners due to the substantial revenue share demanded. Subramaniam noted, "Leo was not a profitable film for us. The reason is that they had demanded an unprecedented share of distribution in Tamil Nadu. Most theatre owners did not screen this film willingly."

He further explained how the excessive revenue-sharing model imposed a financial burden on theatres, regardless of the film's overall earnings. Subramaniam pointed out that if such high sharing percentages continued, theatre maintenance and operational costs could not be covered effectively. Notably, the film had been released in neighbouring Kerala with a 60 percent share, while Tamil Nadu theatres were burdened with an 80 percent share demand.
