Kanchana 4 Update: Raghava Lawrence Gears Up For New Thrills With Horror Comedy Film Series

Kanchana 4 Update: Released in 2011, "Kanchana," also known as "Muni 2: Kanchana," is a Tamil horror comedy film written, produced, and directed by Raghava Lawrence. Serving as a sequel to his earlier work, "Muni" (2007), it continues the storyline in Lawrence's Muni film series. The movie stars Lawrence in the lead role, supported by Sarathkumar, Kovai Sarala, and Lakshmi Rai, with Devadarshini and Sriman in pivotal roles.
As per the latest report, director Raghava Lawrence has completed the script for "Kanchana 4" and is gearing up to begin filming in September. Scheduled to capture the signature blend of horror and comedy, fans can anticipate another thrilling installment in the "Kanchana" series.
The plot of "Kanchana" revolves around Raghava, a character reluctant to step out of his comfort zone until he is possessed by a ghost, leading to bizarre behavior. The cinematography was handled by Vetri, with Kishore Te managing the editing and S. Thaman composing the soundtrack.
Originally released in Tamil on July 22, 2011, with its Telugu-dubbed version preceding on July 15, 2011, "Kanchana" garnered significant commercial success despite receiving mixed reviews from critics. The film's success led to sequels, with "Kanchana 2" hitting theatres on April 17, 2015, followed by "Kanchana 3" on April 19, 2019, both proving to be box office hits.
'Kanchana': Remakes and Inspirations
Expanding its reach, "Kanchana" was remade in various languages, including the Kannada adaptation titled "Kalpana," directed by Rama Narayanan and starring Upendra and Lakshmi Rai, released in September 2012. Raghava Lawrence also directed the Hindi remake, "Laxmii," featuring Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani, which premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on November 9, 2020.
Internationally, the Sri Lankan version titled "Maya," directed by Donald Jayantha, saw Ranjan Ramanayake in the role originally played by Sarath Kumar. This led to unofficial remakes such as "Da Possessed" (2014) in the Philippines and "Tar Tay Gyi" (2017) in Myanmar. Bangladesh also saw its rendition titled "Mayabini" in 2017, starring Symon Sadik, Airin Sultana, and Amit Hasan. Additionally, the song "Sangili Bungili Kadhava Thora" inspired a 2017 horror-comedy film of the same name starring Jiiva.
