Raayan OTT Release Date and Platform: Dhanush's eagerly awaited second directorial, Raayan, premiered in theatres worldwide on July 26, 2024. The film boasts a stellar cast, featuring Kalidas Jayaram, Sundeep Kishan, and S.J. Suryah in prominent roles, with Dhanush himself starring in the lead.
According to the latest reports, Raayan will begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video starting August 30. This follows an agreement that ensures its availability on the platform within four weeks of its theatrical release. Although reports suggest that Prime Video plans to debut the film on this date, official confirmation is still pending.
Initially, there were reports that the OTT platform Sun NXT had also acquired the streaming rights for Raayan, leading to speculation that the film might be available on both Prime Video and Sun NXT. However, only an official announcement will reveal whether Raayan will indeed be featured on two different OTT platforms.
Raayan Synopsis
In the 1990s, Kathavaraayan "Raayan" takes on the responsibility of caring for his younger siblings after their parents vanish, moving them to North Chennai. Years later, Raayan manages a fast-food restaurant while his siblings face their own struggles. When his brother Muthu gets involved in a bar fight that results in the death of a gangster's son, Raayan and his family find themselves caught in a dangerous web of deceit, betrayal, and revenge, orchestrated by a newly appointed police commissioner. They must navigate these perilous situations to ensure their survival.
Raayan Cast and Crew
The film boasts a rich ensemble cast led by Dhanush as Kathavaraayan "Raayan," with Rakul playing the younger version of Raayan. Prakash Raj stars as Commissioner Sargunam, while S.J. Suryah appears as Sethuraman "Sethu." Selvaraghavan features as Sekhar, a father figure to Raayan, and Sundeep Kishan plays Muthuvelraayan "Muthu," Raayan's younger brother, with Avanish as young Muthu. Dushara Vijayan is cast as Durga, Raayan's younger sister, with Dharsikha portraying young Durga. Kalidas Jayaram takes on the role of Manickavelraayan "Manickam," another of Raayan's younger brothers, with Dhanush Karthik as young Manickam. Aparna Balamurali stars as Megala, Muthu's wife, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar makes a cameo as Sethu's first wife. The supporting cast includes Saravanan as Durai, Dileepan as Sethu's henchman, Ilavarasu as Megala's father, Divya Pillai as Annam Sethuraman, Dr. Karthik Anjaneyan, Devadarshini as a nurse, Namo Narayanan as a land shark, Cell Murugan as a restaurant worker, and Kathir B. Kailasam, Naveen Krubhakar, Anbu Mayilsamy, Aranthangi Nisha as a police officer, and Kiccha Ravi as Kathavaraayan's father, with M. Soundarya Saravanan and Sarathi in supporting roles.
The soundtrack, composed by A. R. Rahman, features singles like "Adangaatha Asuran" (May 9, 2024), "Water Packet" (May 24), and "Raayan Rumble" (July 5). The full album was released on July 6, 2024, at Sriram Engineering College in Chennai. Directed and written by Dhanush, the film is produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, with cinematography by Om Prakash and editing by Prasanna GK.
