According to film industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai, the box office success of "Raayan" shows no signs of slowing down, with the film's worldwide gross surpassing ₹100 crore. In Tamil Nadu, Dhanush's latest directorial venture continues to perform exceptionally well during the weekdays, demonstrating remarkable box office resilience. Despite facing stiff competition from half a dozen new releases this Friday, "Raayan" is expected to retain its screen presence and continue drawing audiences in its second week. This impressive performance underscores the film's strong hold and growing popularity across regions.
Raayan Synopsis
In the 1990s, Kathavaraayan "Raayan" takes on the responsibility of raising his younger siblings after their parents vanish, moving them to North Chennai. As time passes, Raayan runs a fast-food hotel while his siblings face their own challenges. When a bar dispute involving his brother Muthu leads to the death of a gangster's son, Raayan and his family become entangled in a complicated scheme of deception, betrayal, and revenge orchestrated by a new police commissioner. The family must navigate these dangerous circumstances to ensure their survival.
Raayan Cast and Crew
The film boasts a diverse ensemble cast led by Dhanush as Kathavaraayan "Raayan," with Rakul portraying the younger Raayan. Prakash Raj plays Commissioner Sargunam, and S.J. Suryah is featured as Sethuraman "Sethu." Selvaraghavan takes on the role of Sekhar, Raayan's father figure, while Sundeep Kishan plays Muthuvelraayan "Muthu," Raayan's younger brother, with Avanish as young Muthu. Dushara Vijayan appears as Durga, Raayan's younger sister, and Dharsikha as young Durga. Kalidas Jayaram portrays Manickavelraayan "Manickam," another of Raayan's younger brothers, with Dhanush Karthik as young Manickam. Aparna Balamurali stars as Megala, Muthu's wife, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar makes a cameo as Sethu's first wife. The cast also features Saravanan as Durai, Dileepan as Sethu's henchman, Ilavarasu as Megala's father, Divya Pillai as Annam Sethuraman, Dr. Karthik Anjaneyan, Devadarshini as a nurse, Namo Narayanan as a land shark, Cell Murugan as a restaurant worker, Kathir B. Kailasam, Naveen Krubhakar, Anbu Mayilsamy, Aranthangi Nisha as a police officer, Kiccha Ravi as Kathavaraayan's father, and M. Soundarya Saravanan and Sarathi in supporting roles.
The film's music, composed by A. R. Rahman, features singles such as "Adangaatha Asuran," released on May 9, 2024; "Water Packet," on May 24; and "Raayan Rumble," on July 5. The full album was launched on July 6, 2024, at Sriram Engineering College in Chennai. Dhanush wrote and directed the film, which was produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner. Cinematography was handled by Om Prakash, and Prasanna GK managed the editing.
