'Savukku' Shankar Warns Of Threat To His Life: Controversial YouTuber 'Savukku' Shankar, currently facing legal scrutiny over alleged derogatory remarks, underwent a medical checkup today. He had a dramatic outburst when he saw reporters, expressing fears for his safety while in Coimbatore jail.
Shankar, aged 48, was apprehended on May 8th following accusations of making disparaging comments regarding female police personnel during an interview on a YouTube platform. Felix Gerald, the channel's head who conducted the contentious interview, has also been arrested as the second accused.
'Savukku' Shankar's Detention Under Goondas Act
Amid mounting scrutiny, Shankar, presently confined in Coimbatore Central Prison, was subjected to detention under the Goondas Act on Sunday. This measure, sanctioned by Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai, Sandeep Rai Rathore, was implemented by a cybercrime police inspector from Chennai on May 12th, as confirmed by Chennai city police.
Facing charges in seven cases, four stemming from the contentious interview, Shankar's claims of impropriety among female officers for professional advancement stirred significant controversy. Additionally, he faces legal ramifications for ganja possession, a charge initiated by Theni police.
A vocal critic of the DMK administration and Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, Shankar previously asserted in court that he endured physical assault while detained in Coimbatore prison.
Today, law enforcement authorities escorted Shankar from Coimbatore Central Jail to the Coimbatore District Government General Hospital for medical evaluation. Following examination, including X-rays and treatment for his right arm, Shankar engaged in a heated exchange with reporters, alleging mistreatment by Coimbatore Jail Superintendent Senthilkumar and expressing grave concerns for his safety behind bars.
The ensuing commotion prompted swift intervention by police, ensuring Shankar's safe transportation back to Coimbatore Central Jail, albeit amidst heightened security measures.
