A twelve-year-old boy named Sivanandhan, together with his mother, sister, and friend, navigates life's difficulties, with a plantain tree (Vaazhai) serving as a key element in their story.
Production of "Vaazhai" began in November 2022, marking director Mari Selvaraj's fourth feature film after "Paraiyerum Perumal," "Karnan," and "Maamannan." This film represents the third collaboration between Mari Selvaraj and cinematographer Theni Eswar, who had previously teamed up on "Karnan" and "Maamannan." It also signifies Nikhila Vimal's first project with Mari Selvaraj. Filming was conducted extensively across Tamil Nadu, including locations like Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli.

"Vaazhai," directed by Mari Selvaraj, is a children's film starring child actors Ponvel M. and Raghul R. in the lead roles. The cast also features Kalaiyarasan, Nikhila Vimal, J. Satish Kumar, Dhivya Duraisamy, Janaki, Priyanka Nair, and Nivedita Rajappan. Produced by Sajith Sivanandan, Divya Mari Selvaraj, Mari Selvaraj, and Dhilip Subbarayan under the banners of Navvi Studios, Disney+ Hotstar, and Farmer's Master Plan Production, the film's cinematography is by Theni Eswar. The music, composed by Santhosh Narayanan with lyrics by Yugabharathi, adds depth to the film.
