Production of "Vaazhai" started in November 2022, making it director Mari Selvaraj's fourth feature film following "Paraiyerum Perumal," "Karnan," and "Maamannan." This film marks the third collaboration between Mari Selvaraj and cinematographer Theni Eswar, who previously worked together on "Karnan" and "Maamannan." It is also Nikhila Vimal's debut project with Mari Selvaraj. Filming took place extensively across Tamil Nadu, including locations such as Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli.

The music was composed by Santhosh Narayanan, with lyrics by Yugabharathi. Kumar Gangappan handled the art direction, Dhilip Subbarayan choreographed the stunts, and Sandy Master oversaw the dance choreography.

Mari Selvaraj worked on the film's story for a long time, and it is reportedly said to be one of Mari Selvaraj's best works. His previous film, "Maamannan," a political thriller featuring Udayanidhi Stalin, Vadivelu, Fahadh Faasil, and Keerthy Suresh, was a significant success.
