The film features Rajinikanth in the lead role, with a star-studded cast that includes Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, and Abhirami.

This marks the studio's thirtieth production and signifies Bachchan's debut in Tamil cinema. Vettaiyan is set to hit theaters worldwide on October 10, 2024, aligning with the Vijayadashami festival.

Initially announced in March 2023 under the working title Thalaivar 170-reflecting Rajinikanth's milestone of 170 films as a leading actor-the official title was revealed in December 2023. Principal photography began in October 2023 and concluded in August 2024, with filming taking place in various locations, including Thiruvananthapuram, Tirunelveli, Chennai, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. The film features music by Anirudh Ravichander, with cinematography by S. R. Kathir and editing by Philomin Raj.
