Siva's arch rival is a character who is also the head of another village, but in a bad light and characterization who often picks up quarrel and creates stir amongst his own people. The first half of the movie is directionless without any sturdy content. Seema Raja is a typical no-logic commercial entertainer which is lower than Siva-Ponram's previous flicks in terms of quality and entertainment. However, it could come as a decent package for audience who enjoy typical run-off-the-mill kind of movies.

Behindwoods

Sivakarthikeyan’s screen presence is a major trump card for Seemaraja and he holds the audience with his casual performance. Samantha delivers a neat job and her chemistry with SK looks fresh on the big screen. Not to miss, her excellent Silambam skills, that has a special surprise in the climax. Verdict: Seemaraja is enjoyable for its comedy and commendably executed historical portions!

Seema Raja ends up trivializing even the serious moments due to its compulsive need to entertain audience at all times. The premise of the film, the kings and queens of 21st century, is lost in translation. The time spent on this part of the film, and the effort, is clearly visible. On its own, the story of the Pandian king Kadambavel Raja has merit too.

Sivakarthikeyan and Samantha's Seema Raja lacks in that department. There is a wafer-thin storyline which is highly predictable. On top of it, director Ponram doesn't make Seema Raja enjoyable at all. Overall, Seema Raja follows the usual template of a village-based film and does nothing extraordinary with it. If you are still willing to see Seema Raja, may the force be with you.

Sivakarthikeyan seems intent on following the route Rajinikanth took in tinseltown. Five minutes into Seema Raja, and you can already spot two elements that the recent Superstar release Kaala employed: chaos during a cricket match and the entry of the hero with a dog in tow. Director Ponram seems to have clearly missed a trick by trying out to put in too many commercial elements and excelling in none.
