Seethakaathi (aka) Seethakathi is a Tamil Drama movie written and directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead. Produced by Sudhan Sundaram, Umesh, Jayaram and Arun Vaidyanathan of Passion Studios who earlier produces Nibunan. The film began production in April 2017. The film marks as Vijay Sethupathi's 25th Film in leading roles. Story In Detail The story of Seethakaathi surrounds around a character named Ayya Aadhimoola (Vijay Sethupathi), who is passionate about theatres and drama. Ayya, who earlier refused doing moives all his life, starts acting in them and becomes superstar. Ayya disappears leaving his friend Parasuraman (Mouli) and family to face Dhanapal (Sunil) a wealthy producer and actor, who was suppose to produce a movie with Ayya. What happens to Ayya? Is explained in rest of the story.

Vijay Sethupathi has stolen the show as Ayya Aadhimoolam. He is seen in the film for close to 40 mins but he makes a lasting impression throughout the movie. The way in which he has transformed as the character is brilliant. Govind Vasanth has done a good job with the songs. At the same time, his BGM works score higher this time. He even makes use of silence and minute notes to perfection. Balaji Tharaneetharan must be applauded for taking the film through different genres. The screenplay of the film has been neatly layered. In fact, the initial portions of the film offer scope for an emotional drama through the life of the artist but after certain point of time, he adds the elements of dark comedy, which has done extremely well. Verdict Seethakaathi, with its daring narrative pattern, powerful performances and a soulful concept, is a film that deserves applauses.

The theme that the soul of a passionate actor and his art is immortal is well explored in 'Seethakathi'. The first half of the film has very interesting elements that keep one engaged and especially the sequence involving Rajkumar and Bhagavathy Perumal is a scream. Verdict: Go for this novel fantasy themed film that is partly entertaining but delves deep into the soul of an artiste in a thought-provoking manner.
