The young enthusiastic cast, an impressive technical crew and cameos by Dhanush and actor/director SJ Surya, the film barely manages to hold your attention.
Gautham gives a good performance and so have the others in the cast. But even at under two hours, the film appears rather slow and unexciting. Dhanush's entry at the climax as Kokki Kumar, definitely makes the end more entertaining. But he perhaps comes in a little too late to save the film.
Verdict: Aishwarya Dhanush's Vai Raja Vai is a let down.
Behindwoods
With an eye popping star cast, Vai Raja Vai surely drew heavy attention. Justifying the excitement, all the central actors deliver well. Gautham Karthik gets to play an average human with an extraordinary feature.
On the whole, Vai Raja Vai is surely a well woven tale of an ordinary man with a single extraordinary possession and the greed of people around him.
Verdict: An entertaining commercial film with an exciting difference

Third time on the big screen, Gautam is at ease. His movements are natural; however, it certainly lacks drama to complete the touch of realism. His worry, confusion, depression and relief all seem not strikingly different from one another.
On the sunny side, screenplay is taut. At two hours, this movie keeps you glued to your seat and it is one experience, you won't regret. Yuvan's music is on the rocks; his notes impress the best in the minimal yet striking BGM.
On the whole, 'Vai Raja Vai' is a clean entertainer with a deep story, narrated simple but an exciting movie, for everyone in the family.

Half an hour into the film, we have a hero with extra sensory perception, happily in love and a secure job. And just when you start getting restless, Aishwarya plays her cards well and spruces up the proceedings with a twist.
The first half is incredible fun and the fact that Aishwarya has gone shamelessly commercial is visible in every frame. She handles it quite well and it's a leap of faith from her first film.
Overall, "Vai Raja Vai" is a good effort gone completely awry.
