Asin passed up Pokkiri

Prabhu Deva has been finalized to direct the remake of Pokkiri. The heroines role in the film will be played by young Ayesha Takia. She will be playing the role opposite hunk Salman Khan. The actress in the Tamil version of the film, Asin, was being considered Ayesha's role. But director Prabhu Deva opted for a "more" Bollywood face - hence he chose Ayesha Takia.

Noted producer Boney Kapoor will be producing Pokkiri. Ayesha has been without a big hit for quite a while now, not being too successful so far. This might just be the big break for the young lady. But she has to live up to the screen presence of Salman Khan and also to the precedent set by Asin in the original.

At present, Asin is shooting for the Hindi remake of Ghajini with star Aamir Khan.
