There were more than 7 films planned for a Pongal release but only 4 were actually released. The reason - money problems? No. Only lack of confidence by the makers. There were number of theatres awaiting the new films. The viewers also ready to enjoy a good movie. But the producers and directors are the real villains. Many producers are not listening the stories from the directors. They are satisfied with an one line story. Debutant directors always very careful with their first venture. But after their first releases, most debutante directors have more confidence in the heroes instead of their screenplays and story lines.Deepavali, Paruthi Veeran, Thirumagan, Muni are some of the big budget films that were scheduled to be released in Pongal. Now these films may be released in the first week of February. Ameer announced that Paruthiveeran will be released on 25th of January. But that is not confirmed information.

What about the result of films released for Pongal? Tamil viewers gave the first place indisputably to Vijay's Pokkiri. People accepted that there are few cliches in the screenplay but it was entertaining enough. The combination of Vijay and Prabhu Deva made some magic among the viewers. One third of the cost of the film was recovered in 3 day's . The Box Office is hopeful for big margin or profit via this film.

Thamirabharani got the second place in the race. Director Hari gave this family masala with enough dose of sentiment which pull the folk crowd to the theaters. The Govt's announcement for reducing the rate of tickets also working as a big booster for this medium budget film. There are some positive signs from the producers side also. He may announce 2 more projects in coming week. But the week was a big disappointment for Ajith. His much awaited film Aalwar was not as a crowd puller as expected. Even a typical Ajith fan also not find enough entertainment in this film. There is a heavy drop in the inflow of crowds into the cinema halls from the 4th day of its release unlike Ajiths last Pongal release.
