There were eight distributors who have got the rights of Shivaji for screening the film in Tamil Nadu on 'distribution guarantee' basis. Most of the distributors earned good profit through the film. But three of them have complained that they had incurred a loss up to Rs.3 crores in 3 Trichy, Chengalpattu-Pandi, Krishnagiri areas.
According to Krishnagiri-Namakkal distributor C Prakash (Vikash Pictures), they paid Rs.5.5 crores for screening the film in 33 theaters in Namakkal, Dharmaprui and Krishnagiri areas. "But the film has only collected Rs.4 cr 30 lakhs. Of course, it is the very huge collection in my area and it is the new record. But now I'm facing the deficit of Rs.120 lakhs."
"I had lot hope on AVM that they would compensate our loss. But they are not even ready to hear our grievances. I'm totally disappointed with the production house and the way they responded. They treated us like untouchables. We will teach a lesson to the company in future. I hope a lot on our Superstar Rajini, who knows our problems very well and do something to solve our issues" added Prakash.
Nag Ravi , the proprietor of Insight Media Film Company and distributor of Shivaji for Chengalpattu-Pondy area also complained that he incurred a loss of Rs.1 crore through Shivaji. He said, "I paid Rs. 4.65 cr for the rights of the area, but only collected Rs. 3.30 lakhs. I hoped that the production house would refund the money. But they deceived me. But I hope Rajini sir will do something to balance the situation"
Another distributor Rameshkumar of Trichi-Tanjore area also complained that he lost Rs.1 crore through Shivaji distribution. According to him, Rajini suggested to sale the film for lower price. But AVM was adamant in fixing higher price for the distribution rights. He said, "It is the fault of the production company only. Their attitude and way of treatment is very worst and I am totally disappointed with them. I know well about Rajini sir and how he respects the distributors. We are still waiting patiently only because of Rajini sir"
At the same time, other distributors like Abhirami Ramanathan, GV Films have earned heavy profit (up to Rs.7 crores) through the distribution of Shivaji. Now all the three distributors, who faced the loss have planned to meet the Superstar before 11th and seek his appointment for the same in a day or two.
The silver Jubilee celebrations of Shivaji will be held on 11th at the University Of Madras Auditorium. On the same day, Rajinikanth gives the shields for distributors and exhibitors at his Kalyana Mandapam.
