S Janaki bags the first P Susheela Award

Veteran Singer P. Suseela with more than 40,000 songs to her credit has instituted the P. Suseela Charitable Trust.

Besides providing support to budding singers, the trust will also present the P Susheela Award every year to one eminent personality who has rendered valuable services in the field of film music. A library of music will also be set up by the trust.

A special jury under the chairmanship of veteran music director MS Viswanathan, yesteryear actress Rao Bala Saraswathi Devi and poet Vairamuthu has selected popular singer S. Janaki as the recipient of the first award which comprises of a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and a memento.

The award ceremony will take place on November 13 at the Ravindrabharathi Auditorium in Hyderabad. According to Suseela, there will also be a live concert by singer SP Balasubramaniam.
