Though some of the leading Tamil actors stayed away from the Rameswaram protest rally, a large number of artists and directors from the Tamil film industry staged a protest at the coastal town on Sunday and raised their strong protest against the brutal killing of Tamils in Srilanka.

Veteran directors Bharathiraja and Tamil Film Producer Council president Rama Narayanan led the rally and later presided over the meeting organized near the bus stand of Rameswaram.

All the artists who attended the rally blasted against the genocide and urged the Union Govt to pressurize the Srilankan Government to stop the war.

Poet Vairamuthu claimed that the entire land of Srilanka was once owned by Tamil rulers. Bharathiraja urged Tamil people to show their solidarity to the fellow Tamilians suffering in the island.

Director K S Ravikumar said that the United Nations should intervene in the Sri Lankan affairs to save Tamils, who have become refugees in their own country.

Vadivelu, K.Bhagyaraj, T. Rajender, Parthiban, Pandiyarajan, Cheran, Karunas, Kovai Thambi, Kalaipuli Dhanu, and K T Kunjumon attended the meeting and showed their concern over the issue.
