Ajith Kumar, popularly called as Thala by his fans, has announced his decision not to celebrate his birthday (May 1st) this year.

The actor"s fans usually celebrate his birthday with much fanfare and glitz. However, this year, the star has sent a letter to his fans asking them not to celebrate his birthday as he sympathises with the plight of the Tamils in Sri Lanka.

In an open letter to his fans, Ajith has written, "It has been brought to my attention that the members of Ajith Kumar Narpani Iyyakam have planned to celebrate my birthday, that falls on May 1, with huge fan fare. I sincerely feel that the whole process will be highly inhuman if we celebrate my birthday in the background of our fellow Tamils languishing and suffering in Sri Lanka."

Further, we are aware that the Lok Sabha elections are being conducted across the country. At this point of time, I sincerely feel our celebrations should not pose any discomfort to the authorities concerned."

According to Ajith's PRO V.K. Sundar, Ajith is going abroad to an undisclosed location and will not be in Chennai on May 1.
