Kalaimamani awards distributed

Actresses Nayantara, Asin, Meera Jasmine, dancer Aishwarya Rajinikanth and veteran B. Saroja Devi are among the 70 people conferred with the Kalaimamani awards by the state government for their contribution to arts and literature.

Theatre personality N.Muthusamy, Drums Sivamani and television talk show host Anu Hasan are also on the list of people honoured by the state government.

The Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram, the state equivalent of Sangeet Nataka Academy, published the awardees" list on Tuesday.

According to an official media release by the Tamil Nadu Government, Tamil literary orator Avvai Natarajan, vocalist Maharajapuram Sreenivasan, A V S Sivakumar, violinist Embar Kannan and religious orator Suki Sivam are among those selected for the prestigious award.

There are more film personalities adding glamour to the list. Cheran, Sundar C, Bharath, Pasupathy, Shobana, Vaiyapuri, music director Harris Jeyaraj, cinematographer R D Rajasekhar, small screen directors Sundar K Vijayan and Thiruselvam have also been chosen for the award. Bharathanatyam dancers Aishwarya Rajnikanth, Shailaja, Swetha Gopalan, Sangeetha Kapilan and Kayalvizhi Kapilan were also honoured.

Vasantha Vaikunth, theatres" owner association president Abhirami Ramanathan, Vazhuvoor Ravi and Veeramani Raju also figured in the list.

The government has declared special cash awards for three artists including lyricist N S Varadarajan, T. C. Sundaramurthy and T. N. Krishnan. Sri Sankara Narayana Sabha has been selected as the best drama troupe in the state.
