Padukalam, first Kongu novel released

Padukalam a typical Tamil folk novel, but the first one to be based on Kongu region, was released on April 13 at Film Chamber Theater.

Written by noted educationalist Dr PK Ponnuswamy, the former Vice Chancellor of Chennai and Madurai Kamaraj Universities, the book was released by noted scholar Tamil Aruvi Maniyan and received by veteran actor Sivakumar.

The book launch event was one of the most cordial and hospitable events in these recent times. A few excerpts that were read from the book took us down the memory lane and connected us with the glorious Tamil culture.

Speaking about the book Sivakumar said that he felt the book best describes the culture of Kongu region. Drawing similarities between a few incidents from his own past and those mentioned in the book, Sivakumar pointed out that the book will be a nostalgic journey to all those who hail from Kongu.

Noted scholar and critic Dr Valliappan reviewed the book on the stage itself and hailed the way the author exposes Tamil culture and family values through the novel.

Writer-Journalist Thiruppur Krishan and Malan also attended the event and appreciated the efforts of Dr Ponnusamy for bringing to light the unknown parts of Kongu.

Dr Ponnusamy thanked all for their cordial support for bringing out the novel successfully and has vowed for more such works in future.
