Actors turning singers have become a trend in the film industry. Especially in South Indian films, we see many instances of this trend. Even though they do not pose any talent, they are made to sing, keeping commercial intrest in mind. We see very few actors like Vijay, Vasundhara Das, Mamta Mohandas etc, who are trained in singing and has proved their talent.

Latest additon to this pool is actress Manjari Phadnis. The Marathi lass, who has acted in Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Hindi, has shown her hidden talent through the film Muthurai. The actress has sung 'Azhagaana Neeyum' a slow duet, along with Naresh Iyer for which she has received a good response. Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed the music for this film.

Manjari is trained in classical music and she says that she had set her sight for singing from very young age. The actress has recently confessed that she prefers singing over acting. She has even participated in a popular musical reality show, where she was one of the finalists.
