Aarya bags Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan

Grapevine is abuzz with the news that Aarya has bagged Mani Ratnam's historical movie Ponniyin Selvan. The director, who was considering Vikram and Surya, has zeroed in on the Madrasapattinam star.

Sources have revealed that Aarya's performance in Madrasapattinam made Mani Ratnam to finalize the actor. The director feels that Aarya's can perfectly fit the historical role of Rajakesari Varman aka Arulmozhi Varman, one of the greatest emperors of the Tamil Chola Empire, adds unconfirmed source.

It is reported that Mani Ratnam has recently narrated the story to Aarya. The actor with out any hesitation, agreed to do the title role. Meanwhile, the director has finalized Mahesh Babu to portray Adithya Karikalar's role and Vijay for Vandiyathevan's role from the historical novel.

The movie is the screen-adaptation of the 'Ponniyin Selvan', which was written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The expected budget of the film is Rs. 200 crores and it is produced by the Sun Pictures.
