The year 2010 has passed away with many much-hyped Kollywood movies falling flat at the Box Office. But comparatively to year 2009, the Tamil film industry has done reasonably good at box-office. The industry also hogged the global limelight with the movies like Endhiran, Singam, Raavanan etc. Actors like Vikram, Surya, Asin, Trisha Krishnan etc also made their impressive debut in Bollywood.
Oneindia recently held the Best of Kollywood 2010 polls and it gave an opportunity for its readers to vote the Best Movie, Actor, Actress, Music Director and Director. Thousands of readers took part in the Oneindia survey and cast their votes in various categories. Here, we bring you the final verdict given by the Oneindia readers.
Can you imagine anybody winning the race when superstar Rajinikanth is in it. Yes! It is true that nobody can win the race other than Rajini. The Tamil superstar has proved his popularity again with his recently released multi-lingual movie Endhiran - The Robot. The actor has got nearly 60% of votes, thereby putting aside other popular Kollywood stars like Vikram (Raavanan), Surya (Singam), Simbu a.k.a Silambarasan (Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya) and Aarya (Madraspattinam). Although, these actors have given their best performances, it was Rajini, who has made it to the top of Best Oneindia Tamil actor.
Trisha Krishnan has always been the favourite actress of Tamil audience and now she has proved it again by beating Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the Best Actress category. The actress received 38.2 % of the votes, while the latter got 32.6 % vote share. Trisha"s performance in Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa has pushed Aish"s performance in Endhiran down to the second spot. Amala Paul (Mynaa), Tamanna Bhatia (Thillalangadi) and Oviya (Kalavani) were the other nominees in this slot.
It is rare scenario were a musician"s compositions competing each other for number 1 and 2 positions. Yes, Oscar award winner AR Rahman"s Endhiran and Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa battled out for top two positions. Audience has given thumbs up for Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa. His close contender was Yuvan Shankar Raja for Paiyaa followed by Devi Sri Prasad for Singam and GV Prakash Kumar for Aayarathil Oruvan.
Best Director : Shankar
It is undoubtedly none other than Shankar for making India"s biggest ever sci-fi Endhiran. He alone got 53.5 % votes. The movie, which was made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, has won the hearts of critics as well as audience. Story, screenplay and technical values made the film an instant hit. Gautham Menon (Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa), Vasanthabalan (Angaadi Theru), AL Vijay (Madrasapattinam) and Hari (Singam) were also nominated in this category.
As expected Endhiran has been voted as the Best Movie of the year by getting 55% votes from our readers. The movie, which was made with the budget of 150 crores, had earned the positive feedback from all three versions of the film. Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, Angaadi Theru, Madrasapattinam and Singam were also nominated, but these movies could not stand tall in front of Rajini's star power.
