Aaranya Kaandam, Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai win National Awards

The 59th National Awards have been announced in New Delhi today. Tamil movies Aaranya Kaandam, Vaagai Sooda Vaa and Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai have bagged the prestigious awards.

Aaranya Kaandam, which is supposedly the first neo-noir film in Kollywood, has bagged two National Awards. While Praveen KL and Srikanth will jointly share the Best Editor Award, its director Thiagarajan Kumararaja has won Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debutant Director.

Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai has won the Best Popular Film, while its lead Appu Kutty bagged the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment Award.

A Sarukunam's Vaagai Sooda Vaa has been honoured with Best Feature Film in Tamil Award and Revathy's Red Building Where The Sun Sets has bagged Best Non Feature Film on Family Values.
