Shubha Phutela died at a hospital after battling a prolonged kidney ailment. The Punjab born 21-year old Phutela was undergoing treatment at the Apollo Hospital in Bangalore for kidney problem and jaundice for the past three months and passed away last night (October 22), hospital sources said.

The Miss South India 2010, who made her debut in Tamil film Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathilaey this year, had shown signs of recovery recently but suddenly went into coma last week, hospital sources added.

Earlier this year, she had signed for a Telugu film starring Ram but backed out citing health issues. She was born in Ludhiana and had her schooling and college in Bangalore. She was also the face of many popular brands, including jewellery line, textiles. Phutela is survived by parents, an elder sister and a younger brother.
