Gangai Amaran lashes out at 'Kolaveri di'

By Ramchander

Gangai Amaran, a rare multifaceted legend in Kollywood, has praised music director Udayan for his excellent compositions in forthcoming movie Mannaru. But what surprised many was his criticism on song 'Kolaveri di' from the Dhanush starrer 3, which had become a big sensation not only in India but also in other countries.

The audio of Appukkutty, Swathy and Vaishali starrer Mannaru was released at Satyam Cinemas on July 7. SP Muthuraman and Gangai Amaran released the album and wished good luck for the composer Udayan and the Mannaru unit.

Gangai Amaran, in his speech, had some good words about the upcoming composer Udhayan. "It was a pleasure listening to the last song, 'Ooraiyellam Kaaval Kaakkum...' Udayan's composition is simply excellent."

"Nowadays, even one-song-wonder guys promote themselves as top musicians. The songs like 'Kolaveri di...' is a curse to Tamil film music. Someone also wrote a lyric like 'Kannadasan Kaaraikudi...' which is absolutely an insult to a legend like Kannadasan. Kannadasan used to drink liquor but he gave some great poems and glorified Tamil that we should not forget."

SP Muthuraman, SP Jananathan, Suseendiran, Gouthaman, Fefsi Siva, Thambi Ramayya, Saravanan, Rameshkumar, Ashok Rajan, Jaishankar and others were present at the event.
