No more remakes for Shankar

By Ramchander

He is probably one director, who choose to direct a remake film even after tasting 100% success in original films. If you have guessed it as Shankar, then you are absolutely right. The filmmaker in his close-to-two decade career, made his first remake in Nanban. Though he got appreciation for his work for his recently released film, his fans were not happy with him. Understanding this, the director has announced that he would never do remakes from now.

Speaking to a leading daily, Shankar has said that he never wished to do remakes but it happened by chance. It was during the shooting of Endhiran, when the filming was cancelled due to some reasons in Pune, he by chance, saw Bollywood movie 3 Idiots along with the film unit. The film impressed him a lot and the director decided to have a Tamil version because he wanted the South viewers to experience what he felt while watching 3 Idiots.

He further added that it gave him a new experience but promises that he would not try his hands on remakes not even a remake of his earlier movie. Meanwhile, he has not confirmed about his plans to direct Telugu Mega Star Chiranjeevi's 150th film. All he says is that he is on a holiday and it is only after that he would be in a position to announce his future project.
