Vijay's
Thuppakki,
as
expected,
has
opened
up
to
a
great
opening
at
Tamil
Box
Office
on
day
one.
The
film
has
managed
to
beat
other
biggies
like
Shahrukh
Khan's
Jab
Tak
Hai
Jaan
and
Silambarasan's
Podaa
Podi
at
the
collection
centres.
Early
reports
say
that
Thuppakki
has
made
an
earth-shattering
business
not
only
in
Tamil
Nadu
but
also
at
International
Box
Office.
The
occupancy
in
the
majority
of
theatres
were
100%.
However,
Shahrukh
Khan's
Jab
Tak
Hai
Jaan,
which
was
released
in
about
38
screens
in
Tamil
Nadu,
was
not
a
threat
to
the
Tamil
films
in
the
state.
Sources
say
that
Jab
Tak
Hai
Jaan
also
got
good
response
from
Chennai
audience.
The
Hindi
film
was
mainly
released
in
multiplexes
in
Tamil
Nadu
but
Thuppakki
and
Podaa
Podi
overshadowed
the
film.
Meanwhile,
Jab
Tak
Hai
Jaan
had
done
an
amazing
business
on
the
release
day
in
other
parts
of
India
and
at
International
Box
Office.
However,
Shahrukh's
earlier
films
Ra.One
and
Don
2
had
done
good
collections
at
Tamil
Box
Office.
The
exact
figure
of
the
first
day
collections
of
Thuppakki,
Jab
Tak
Hai
Jaan
and
Podaa
Podi
are
yet
to
be
revealed.
However,
Thuppakki
is
an
action-thriller
directed
by
AR
Murugadoss,
Shahrukh
Khan's
Jab
Tak
Hain
Jaan
is
a
romantic
film
and
Podaa
Podi
is
romantic-comedy
film.
